Bessie Leona “Bess” Terhlen, 76, of Plain City, OH formerly of St. Clairsville, OH passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 in Columbus, OH. She was born February 9, 1941 in Wheeling, WV a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Alta Hooper Varner.
Bess lived the majority of her life in St. Clairsville. She worked at National Cash Register in Cambridge but her most memorable job was that of the canteen manager at the V.F.W. in St. Clairsville. Anyone who knew Bess loved her. She was known for her generosity, quick wit, and of course her amazing cooking. Her love for family and friends was evident to anyone she met.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Terhlen in 2013; a brother, William Hooper; two sisters, Willa Mae Zavolta and Dorothy Mealey.
Left to treasure her memory are a daughter, Kimberly (Dan) Yates; her cherished grandsons, Austin and Zachary; sisters, Mildred Watkins, Dixie (Roy) Davis, Helen Mays; brothers, Frank (Donna) Davis, Raymond (Beverly) Davis, Bailey (Wilma) Davis, Rick (Diane) Moore; many nieces and nephews as well as dear friends with whom she shared a wonderful life.
Friends will be received on Friday from 1 pm until time of funeral service at 6 pm at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville, OH 43950 with Life Celebrant David Wright officiating. Final arrangements at the convenience of the family.
