William “Bill” Benda Sr., 85, of Bellaire passed away on August 21, 2023, at his home in Bellaire, Ohio.

Born on May 31, 1938 in Belmont County, Ohio, a son of the late James and Anna (Johnson) Benda.

Bill was a United States Army Veteran and a retired Iron Worker for the Iron Workers Local #549

Outside of work, Bill’s true passion revolved around all things automotive. A self-proclaimed “Avid Nascar Fan,” he could often be found cheering on his favorite drivers. Auto racing, stock cars, and fixing up all kinds of automobiles were a hobby for Bill.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Thatcher Benda on December 1, 2021 as well as two brothers, Charles and James Benda.

He is survived by his four children: William (Kim) Benda Jr. of Wheeling, WV; Tasha Tobiczyk of Jacobsburg, OH; and Telka (Jesse) Clear of Bellaire and Dianna (Scott) Ciancone of Bellaire, OH; a brother, Robert Benda of Bellaire, OH, four grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Services to honor Bill’s life will take place at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 441 37th Street Bellaire Ohio 43906 on Thursday August 24, 2023 from 2pm until time of Belmont County Veterans Service at 5:45pm. Funeral Services to immediately follow at 6pm. Visitation will resume until 8pm. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family at Holly Memorial Gardens.
