Burl Yates Jr. 91, of Shadyside, OH died Saturday, November 4, 2017, in Columbus, OH. surrounded by his family.

Burl was born April 1, 1926 in West Wheeling, Ohio to the late Burl Sr. and Bessie (Hinds) Yates. Burl was a proud WWII Navy veteran. He retired from First Energy, was a member of Masonic Lodge #724 Shadyside, He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville.

Through the years he transported children to various Shriners Hospitals. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He served as a member of the Shadyside City Council and was an auctioneer, sold real-estate during his retirement years.

Burl was preceded in death by the love of his life, Luella (Shook) Yates and son, Tom.

Burl is survived by son Mark (Sue) and grandsons, Kelly (Hinda), Kyle (Emily) and Kory (Gabriella), great granddaughters, Leilana and Benna, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation and service will be held at the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, Shadyside, where Burl was a longtime member, Tuesday, from 10 a m until time of service at 11 a m with Reverend Randy Weaver officiating.

The Belmont County Council of the American Legion will conduct services at 10:45am
