Not only was he there for the good times with me and my brothers whether it be a Shadyside Boosters event or a trip to Ohio University for Halloween festivities, I remember when my father passed away and how supportive he was to me and my family. He was a good man and will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Quite simply, Danny Bland was special. He spent many hours at my house with my mother and father in the 70’s, 80,’s and 90’s. His heart was as Gold as could be. When I was Sports Information Director at WVU in the 80’s Danny became a fixture and made numerous friends among coaches, players and fans. When my I told my good friend Tony Caridi of his passing and could only remark he was a helluva of a man. Mike Kerin, who spent over 30 years as Director of Operations, echoed Tony’s comments. Quite frankly to know Danny was to love him. He genuinely cared for all the athletes including my brother he so steadfastly supported over the years . Danny never met a stranger and in the world we live in today his kind of heart would eliminate so much of the tragedies we read about everyday. There is no question that God was so impressed with his creation of Danny he incinerated the mold and justifiably there will never be another one like him. For those of us fortunate enough to have be able to call him a friend we know the one word which came out of his mouth more than any other and that was “Love” Well Danny Loved you and as you look down on us today know that there were thousands of others who did. Rest in God’s Peace my Friend. Joe Boczek

We are away from the area and want to express our condolences to the family. I spent considerable time with Danny through the late 70s and through the 80s working with the Boosters Club to assist Shadyside athletics. Danny was highly dedicated and loyal to the program and the community. I can recall one of many such activities of Danny’s when he would climb the light poles to replace the lights at the football field. Danny’s contributions made it better for the athletes of Shadyside. On my morning jog this past Thursday I stopped to talk to Danny uptown. Danny was his smiling and personable self. Danny will be missed
