Gary Lee Setzer

Gary Lee Setzer, 71, died on Sunday, June 30, 2019.

He was born in Bellaire, Ohio, where he was raised in a house built by his father, Melvin Paul Setzer. He spent his last years in that same home. He was preceded in death by his father, and his mother, Marcelyn L. Setzer.

Gary will be remembered for his amiable presence. Known for his charismatic and cavalier sense of humor, he was always the funniest person in the room. He attended Bellaire High School, graduating in 1966. He loved music enthusiastically and was a proficient self-taught banjo player. He enjoyed movies and television, playing poker, spicy food and gardening in his backyard.

He owned and operated Setzer’s Meat Market in Shadyside, Ohio, with his former wife, Jacqueline Setzer, until 1986. Later, Gary was a meat cutter for Kroger, retiring from the Bellaire Kroger in 2011. After retirement, he volunteered as a bartender at the Neffs Rod & Gun Club.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his siblings, Paul Setzer (Cheryl Setzer), Rebecca Stead and Patricia Phillips; his children, Michele Setzer (Michael Kaminsky) and Gary Lee Setzer Jr. (Angela Zielinski); his three grandchildren, Grayson Kaminsky, Matthew Kaminsky and Penelope Simon Setzer; his nieces and nephews, Michael Paul Setzer, Marci Muckleroy, Todd Phillips Jr. and Tristan Cassidy; and his eight great-nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service for the family will be held at West Virginia University in the following months and a public reception for family and friends will be announced at that time.
