George J. Swetz, 97, of St. Clairsville, OH died Friday, April 7, 2017 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, OH. He was born December 30, 1919 in Maynard, OH a son of the late Steve and Mary Friede Swetz.
George was the retired owner/operator of Swetz Construction Company having built many homes in St. Clairsville area. George was a Presbyterian by faith and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years Ann Fiutem Swetz of St. Clairsville; sons, George (Gigi Girgis) of Newton, MA, and Scott (Margaret) Swetz of Woodbine, MD; daughters, Tracy Swetz of Punxsutawney, PA and Amy Swetz of St. Clairsville; eight grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Monday from 5-8 pm at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory 204 West Main Street St. Clairsville with full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 am with Sarah Barickman as Life Celebrant. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

I only had the pleasure of meeting George a few times over the years, but am happy that I did. He was an amazing carpenter and I have fond memories of the conversations I had with him.
