Alexander “George” Shultz, 86 of Shadyside, OH died Wednesday November 4, 2015 at Shadyside Care Center.
He was born February 22, 1929 the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Zadroga) Shultz in Rivesville, WV.
He was a Catholic by faith and an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Shadyside, OH. He was known as the Head Chef of the world famous barbecue chickens as the annual St. Mary’s festival. He was a professional truck driver for 32 years; he was also a business agent for Teamsters Local #697 for 10 years. George was a member of the St. John Central Boosters and the Knights of Columbus. He was very proud of his Polish heritage and loved to play the accordion at family gatherings. He enjoyed dancing and listening to polka music.
He loved to travel, especially to his vacation home in Cocoa Beach / Cape Canaveral, Florida. When not a “Snowbird” in Florida he was busy working in his garden or making wine. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed special hunting seasons with his sons and dear friends at the Baker Sods Hunting Camp in West Virginia. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and provider for his family.
George married his wife Elizabeth “Babe” Cieszeski on November 25, 1950. He often retold the story of the “Big Snow” of 1950 during which they were married. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary later this month.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings John, Walter, Stanley, Stella, Louis, Mary and an infant sister Genevieve.
Mr. Shultz is survived by his wife Elizabeth Shultz of Shadyside Ohio and his children Judith (the late Melvin) Swartz, Deb (Bob Miner) Bevilacqua, Janey (the late John) Ruskowski, George (Lisa) Shultz and Scott (Anna) Shultz. He was also proud of his 16 grandchildren: Amanda (Jason) Hanson, Kathleen (Patrick) Zink, Elizabeth and Martin Swartz; Jennifer and Zachary (Cristen) Bevilacqua; Rebecca (Travis) Dunn, Adam, John and Patrick Ruskowski; Matthew and Scott Shultz; and Emily and Ryan Shultz, Lily and Liza McClung. He also had 11 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Shadyside Care Center for excellent and dedicated care during his illness.
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 441, 37th street, Bellaire, Ohio 43906 from 4 to 8 pm on Friday November 6, 2015 at the Bellaire Chapel. A vigil service will he held at 7:30 with Fr. Samuel Saprano Officiating.
Visitation will be held as well on Saturday November 7, 2015 from 9am until time of funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shadyside, Ohio. Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery in Powhatan Point Ohio where Fr. Saprano will conduct graveside services.
