Herbert F. May, Sr. 85 of Shadyside, OH died Monday, July 16, 2018 at Liza’s Place of Valley Hospice, Wheeling, WV. He was born April 24, 1933 in Jacobsburg, OH a son of the late William French and Lucy Rebecca Bennett May.

Herbert was a retired employee of the former Ormet Corporation, a Methodist by faith, past master and member of Shadyside Lodge 724 F & AM, Shadyside American Legion Post 521 and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Lazich May in 1986; a daughter, Dora McGiverin; sisters, Edna Palmer, Bertha Palmer and Myrtle Palmer; a brother, Albert May.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lee White May of Shadyside; his children, Herbert (Mary) May, Jr. of Bridgeport, OH, Michael (Tammy) May of Shadyside, Mary Ellis of Pittsburgh, PA, Andy (Carolyn) May of Shadyside and Patty (Rick) Rhodes of Prince George, VA; siblings, Helen Powell of Jacobsburg, William E. (Eleanor) May of Jay, FL, Ethel Bier of Clarington, OH, Betty Lou Sheets of Moundsville, WV, Joseph “Doc” (Pat) May of Clarington and Arthur R. “Huck” May of Powhatan Point, OH; grandchildren, Nick (Charity) May, Anna Williams, Ricky (Ashley) Rhodes, Alexis Williams, Lauren May, Cody Ellis, Jennifer (Dan) Maas-Day, Shane Danehart; two great-grandsons, Parker Herbert May and Andrew Danehart.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-8 pm at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Avenue Shadyside, OH with a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am with Pastor Jeff Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH with full Military Honors conducted by Belmont County Veterans Association.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Liza’s Place of Valley Hospice or Bellaire Salvation Army by going to “TMCFunding.com”

I remember playing with Mary, Dora and Patty while my parents (Bill and Olive) shoot the breeze with Herb and Anna. It was alot of fun. Time sure goes by too quickly doesn’t it? Love and condolences to the May family.
