Janet Ruckman, 63, of Flushing, transitioned home on August 13, 2017 and is now at peace. She was born October 22, 1953, a daughter of the late Eleanor Garvonic Knight and the late Russ Ruckman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Dean Ruckman, and her stepmother, Dorothy Ruckman.
Janet graduated from the Ohio Valley School of Nursing and earned a Bachelorás Degree in Nursing from Wheeling Jesuit University. She retired as a survey nurse from the Ohio Department of Human Services. After her retirement, Janet continued to pursue many hobbies including gardening, woodcarving, drawing, astronomy and planting trees. She donated to many charitable organizations for the protection of wildlife and the environment. Janet loved being outside and always said she felt grounded with the earth. She loved all animals, but had a special affection for cats and had rescued many of them in her lifetime. Her favorite seasons were fall and winter and she was a true football fan of WVU and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
She was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville.
Janet was a woman who never showed her pain. What did show was her great sense of humor and loyalty to those she loved. She was the best sister and friend anyone could have.
Surviving are one sister and her husband, Beth and Steve Menduni of Magnolia, TX, and their daughter, Christina Menduni; other nieces are Sandy Estrada and Rebecca Reilly; her caretaker and closest friend, Robin Branz; five aunts, Pat Castilow of Glen Dale, WV; Karen Burgess of Bridgeport; Vikki Valade of Woodhaven, MI; Ann Ruckman of Glen Dale and Dorothy Magdish of Moundsville, WV; many cousins and friends.

Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, is in charge of the arrangements.
I was so sad to hear that Janet, my dear friend in Nursing school, has passed away. My sympathy and condolences to her family. She was a wonderful, kind, and beautiful person. We reconnected on Facebook not long ago and then I didn’t hear from her. I was just thinking about her a few days ago. I live in Florida now, but, it just seems like yesterday when we were making mac and cheese in the dorm kitchen. Rest In Peace dear friend.
