Leslie Ann (Hood) Pielech, 59, formerly of Shadyside, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 after a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis. Leslie was born the daughter of Edward Alan and Marjorie (Crumbaker) Hood in Martins Ferry, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she leaves behind her family, Dwayne and their children Matthew (Peightyn) and Aleksa Pielech. Also surviving, are sister Robin (Joe) Spivla; nephew Erik (Caitlin) Spivla and their children Matthew and Sean; niece Ashley Portillo and her children Natalie and Jordan; and nephew Elliott (Alycia) Spivla; Leslie also leaves behind brothers-in-law Joe (Shirley) Pielech; nephew Joseph Pielech Jr., nephew Mikal Pielech, nephew Derek (Stacie) and their children Tanner and Brayden Pielech; Gary Pielech (deceased) and his children, nephew Jason (Heather) Pielech and nephew Jeremy (Ashley) Pielech and their son Dillon; Jeff Pielech; and Jon (Anji) Pielech and their son Logan.

Leslie loved watching her children in sports and enjoyed traveling. She was also an avid tennis fan having attended several professional matches. Leslie touched so many people fighting MS across America as she was one of the first MS patients to have a muscular movement medical procedure to assist with quality-of-life day-to-day activities. Performed with a team of doctors at Ohio State University Medical Center, Leslie gained national attention for the successes of this procedure that had never previously been performed on an MS patient. Despite Leslie’s continued progression of the debilitating disease, she always had a smile on her face and was so appreciative to everyone who visited her and assisted her with her daily care. She made a lasting impression on so many people that she touched. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. A special thank you to the nurses and caregivers who assisted with Leslie’s daily care.

Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes is entrusted with her funeral arrangements.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, 3838 Lincoln Ave, Shadyside, OH  with the memorial service to follow at 11 am with Seth Filburn presiding. Grave services will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in Leslie’s name to the Lincoln Avenue UMC for the SHS Childrens’ Lunch Program
