Lillian L. McFarland, affectionately known as Lil, 92, of Shadyside peacefully passed away on August 25, 2023, at Liza’s Place, surrounded by her family.
Born on January 14, 1931, a daughter of Benjamin W. and Helen (Zwilling) Martin.
Throughout her life, Lil experienced various endeavors, including working as a Factory Worker for Marsh Wheeling Stogies and as a cashier at Convenient. Later, she found joy and fulfillment babysitting at her home, more commonly known as ‘Lil’s House’, nurturing and caring for countless children who grew to adore her.
Lil had many interests that brought her joy. She enjoyed spending her free time bowling, crocheting, shopping, and basking in the sun while lounging in and by her pool. She also found contentment in simple pleasures, often relishing a Miller Lite with ice, savoring every sip. As a sports enthusiast, she passionately supported the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
Lil’s unconditional love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, defined her life’s purpose.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Horvath. Lillian was a proud grandmother, better known as ‘Gram’ to Hillary (Kurt) Glasser, and Luke (Casey) Horvath, great-grandmother to Gunnar Glasser, Gannon Glasser, Knoxxly Glasser and Lincoln Horvath.
In addition to her parents, Lil was preceded in death by her husband William Everett ‘Mac’ McFarland, and siblings, Freda, Maggie, Shirley, Louis, George, Francis, Robert and Ralph.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday August 29, 2023 at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside from 2pm until time of funeral services at 6pm with Rev. Randy Weaver officiating. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Lori – So sorry to learn of your dear mom’s passing. I have many fond memories of her that go back to when we were children – birthday parties, slumber parties, etc. One of the friendliest faces in town! May she rest in peace.
