Lydia “Nana” Wasko, 93 of Bellaire, Ohio died Tuesday May 28th, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born May 12, 1926 a daughter of the late Frank and Martha (DiUlio) DiPaolo in Barisciano, Italy in the province of L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region of southern Italy.
She came over on the Italian ocean liner the SS Rex and arrived 1938 on New Years Day at the age of 11.
Lydia spoke no English and had to start over in kindergarten but she learned fast and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1946.
Lydia was a member of the St. John Catholic Church, the Catholic Women’s Club and sang in the choir. She was also a past member of the Lions Club Auxiliary.
Lydia was a homemaker and loved her children and grandchildren very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Wasko and a sister Joann Reese.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Frances) Wasko, Janice (Tom) Sable, and Sandra (Carl Walker) McMahon all of Bellaire, Ohio.
In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, Alicia (Jeremie), Lyndsay, Sean (Charlene), Lauren (Ron), Jaclyn (Shamar) and Drew along with four great-grandchildren, Rylin, Landen, Aaliyah and Lakyn.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Friday May 31, 2019 at 1 pm at the St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Heusel officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bellaire, Ohio.
