Mary Josephine Gerdau, 89, of Bellaire, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Shadyside Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Shadyside, Ohio.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 27, 1934 a daughter of the late John Joseph and Susan Bertha (McMullen) Kalinowski.
Mary was a Catholic by faith and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Bellaire, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Sonny, Raymond, Leo, James, Anthony Kalinowski; two sisters, Jane Wilson, and Sue Auckley.
Surviving Mary is her husband, Bernard “Bernie” Gerdau; two sisters, Barbara McFarland, Elizabeth (Bob) Good; brother, Michael Kalinowski; many nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes 441 37th Street, Bellaire, Ohio 43906 and are at the convenience of the family.
I graduated with Mary’s brother in law Gerry. Worked with her at A&P Bellaire
over sixty years ago. Great lady, will be missed. My sympathies to Bernie and the rest
of the Gerdau family.

Aunt Mary will be deeply missed. She left an impact on any one that ever knew her. She was an incredible woman that loved all animals and would always take in a stray. Sometimes the animals would eat better then most people. Praying for peace and comfort for everyone during this very difficult time.

Sympathy to ‘Bernie’ Gerdau and extended family over the loss of Mary. ‘Bernie’ used to attend all the Shadyside football games with Walter and Jerry Gerdau and talked about what a great wife he had and how she made sure his clean clothes were out for him to wear to the football games and how she always had ‘pie night’. Never met Mary but ‘Bernie’ thought the world of her…great to see that in life partners. sue junkins
