Richard Hornbeck, 90, of Shadyside, Ohio died Friday October 13, 2017 at his home.
Richard was born September 27, 1927 in Bellaire, Ohio a son of the late Emmit and Evelyn Carr Hornbeck.
Richard was retired owner-general manager of Top Auto Sales, formerly of Bellaire, He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club having many years of perfect attendance, and serving one year as President, He was also a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, served as a volunteer at Reynolds Memorial and East Ohio Regional Hospitals.
He was a WWII Army Veteran having served as part of the army of occupation in Germany in the 66th Constabulary Squadron attaining a rank one below M/Sgt. He returned to Bellaire and served in the 983rd Engineer Battalion attaining the rank of M/Sgt.
He established a scholarship program for Bellaire High School Students, served on various community committees and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bellaire, Ohio.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were two brothers, Thomas and Harry Hornbeck and a sister, Ida Mae Hornbeck.
Surviving is a son, Richard (Joni) Hornbeck of Montrose, CO. grandchildren, Landon Hornbeck and Carly (Tim) Hornbeck-Brown, two great-grandchildren, Noa Quinn and Rue Ivy Brown., and a close friend, Geraldine Sketel.
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 441 37th Street, Bellaire, Ohio, Tuesday from 4pm until time of Funeral service at 7p.m. with Pastor Phil Bliss officiating.
Final arrangements will be at the convenience of the family.
