Edgar, Ruth Elaine Brown, 89, of Midway, Ohio, recently of Liza’s Place, went to be with our Lord, June 19, 2015.
She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Anna May (Cook) Brown and William Rufus Brown of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Elaine was a retired homemaker and formerly a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. She worked for the Hercules Plant in Canton, Ohio which made avionic engine parts, during the War. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary, for 73 years. She loved quilting, sewing, flower gardening and she was an avid reader. Baking pies and cooking were her art. She was known in the community as Cody’s G-Ma, where her “Midway Boys” could congregate.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur F. Edgar, June 11, 1987, two sisters, Virginia Harper and husband Virgil, and Lucille Gossett and husband Dale, brother-in-laws, Douglas Pickenpaugh and Edward Donley. Maternal grandparents were George B. and Mary (Forsythe) Cook and paternal grandparents were William Frank and Sarah Caroline (Enochs) Brown.
She was blessed with a large family. Surving are her three daughters and families; Mrs. Cheryl and Terry Loy, of St. Clairsville, with her grandchildren, Becky (Dave) McLeod, Dan (Missy) Loy, Holly (Steve) Sroka, Shayne (Kim) Loy and Joey (Chris) Loy, Missy (Steven) Bratton and their families; Ms. Cathy Jones and life companion, Don Patterson, with her grandson, Brady(Holly) Jones and family; Mrs. Jenni and Mark McKeever with her grandsons, Cody and Max McKeever, totaling nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her children, she is survived by two “Brown Girl” sisters, Mrs. Betty Pickenpaugh and Mrs. Mildred Donley and her good friend Katy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio, where friends will be received Sunday, June 21 from 2 pm to 6 pm.
Services will be held Monday June 22, at 11 am with Pastor Benesh of the Friends Church officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Clairsville Public Library for Audio Books for the Blind or Liza’s Place, Valley Hospice Inc, Rayland, Ohio.
Will miss Mrs. Edgar! We are very grateful for getting to know her and being able to help her out when we had the chance.
Wonderful memories from my childhood. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sorry I was unable to attend.
What I remember about Aunt Elaine the most is how funny she was. Now all that laughter is in heaven. My heart goes out to you Cheryl, Cathy and Jenny. She will always be with you. God Bless You Three and your families. RIP God’s Angel! Love, Debbie
