Serge Gentile, 87 of Bellaire, Ohio died Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, West Virginia.
He was born May 27, 1931 in Wheeling, West Virginia a son of the late Ernest and Josephine Anastasia Gentile.
Serge was a retired rolling mill operator for the former Conalco plant in Hannibal, Ohio, a member of the St. John Catholic Church, Sons of Italy Lodge 754 and the former Bellaire Elks.
He was the original owner of the First Ward Tavern, a former Bellaire Councilman and a graduate of Bellaire High School, Class of 1949 which he was the Class President. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Serge was the number one promoter of everything Bellaire, from high school sports to the town itself.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lee Campbell Gentile on July 3, 1982; sister, Adlena Gentile Kown and brother, Ernest Gentile.
Surviving are his children, Penny (Kim) Clifford of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Suzanne (Bernie) Kaufman of Wheeling, West Virginia, Dino Gentile of Wintersville, Ohio and Brian Gentile of Barnesville, Ohio. Also six grandchildren, Ryan (Jenn) Clifford, Justin (Heidi) Clifford, Kurt (Liz) Clifford, Jessica Cronk, Derek (Tesha) Cronk and Serge (Mallory) Gentile, great grandchildren, Cody Kimmel, Kaden, Kolby, Jace, Brody and Laken Clifford, Jaxon and Gia Gentile, brother-in-law, several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 441 37th Street Bellaire, Ohio on Sunday from 12 Noon to 8 pm. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am at the St. John Catholic Church in Bellaire, Ohio with Fr. Daniel Heusel as Celebrant. Entombment in the Guardian Angel Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Bellaire, Ohio with Full Military Honors by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
