Thomas E. “Wimp” Nelms 85, of Shadyside, Ohio died Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Liza’s Place Wheeling, WV.
Tom was born October 22, 1931, in Denbo, Pa. a son of the late Arthur and Mary Kane Nelms.
He was retired from the former Ohio Edison’s R. E. Burger Plant Shadyside, Ohio. He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church Shadyside, the American Legion Post 521 Shadyside, the Shadyside Masonic Lodge # 724 F & AM, Eastern Star Captina Chapter #489. He was an avid golfer at the Moundsville Country Club and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Preceding him in death were four brothers, Joseph, Arthur, William, and Paul and two sisters, Hilda Yager, and Betty McGee.
Surviving is his wife, Phyllis Mayhugh Nelms, a daughter, Amie (Aaron) Purman of St. Clairsville, OH, a son, Thomas (Leslie) Nelms Jr. of Pickerington, OH., Grandchildren, Whitney Sketel, Kelsey (Troy) Starr, Rachael Nelms, Michael Nelms, Abby Nelms and Katie Nelms, a great- granddaughter Aleena Barr.
Family and friends will be received Sunday 3-7 pm at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio.
The Family will receive friends at the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, 3838 Lincoln Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio, on Monday from 9am until time of service at 10am with Reverend Randy Weaver officiating.
Burial follows at Powhatan Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, Shadyside, Ohio.
