Vera Jubera

Vera Jubera was born August 24 th 1913 a daughter of the late Charles and Lula (Coleman) Barlow.
She was raised and lived her life in Powhatan Point Ohio.

She was raised on the river in the big brick house at the end of First Street. She was the
last surviving of five children.

Her siblings in order were: Mary Virginia Barlow Saner,
Charles Clinton Barlow, Marjorie E Barlow Grabans, Neva Barlow Spando.

Her mother Lula Coleman Barlow passed away in 1920 weeks after giving birth to the last daughter
Neva.

Vera’s uncle George Barlow owned the ferry that once existed in town.

Her life revolved around work and the river. Vera was required to end her education after
completing the 8 th grade to help support the family. Her childhood work included making
bricks from the swamp behind the clinic on Main Street.

From her childhood, she recalled the river floods and how they impacted the town. During
1934 she worked for the US Postal Service, her duties included carrying the mail across the
river when it was frozen.

Vera married Andy Kostecka on August 27 th 1935, they had one child Charles Anthony
Kostecka on August 27 th 1939. Her son Charley predeceased her in 2015. She was widowed
on May 11 th 1954.

Vera has two surviving grandsons, Tony Charles Kostecka, (Dana Marie
Kostecka), Andrew Earl Kostecka, and two great granddaughters, Kristen Ann Kostecka,
and Raylyn Kostecka.

On June 21 st 1971 she married Nicholas Jubera who also was born and raised in Powhatan
Point.

She lived as a homemaker enjoying having their house built, developing the
property, gardening and cooking from the garden.

She always has fresh homemade pies ready for the family visits.

They were never apart for more than his working hours for their entire marriage when she was widowed once again on August 7 th 2011 after 40 years
of marriage.

She lived out her final years in the Forest Hill Nursing Center to the age of
106 years old.

A private service will be held on May 16 2020 at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes &
Crematory 186 Main Street Powhatan Point, Ohio 43942 with Rev. James Hoff officiating.

Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.
