William George “Ky” Yavelak, 89, of Belmont OH., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at his home. He was born March 2, 1927 in Neffs, OH a son of the late Stephan and Barbara Prokopecz Yavelak.
Ky was a Registered Surveyor and Mining Engineer, a member of Giffen Park Church, the Society of Mining Engineers and was past president and secretary of Belmont/Jefferson Beagle Club.
Ky helped plan and develop Consol’s Ireland, McElroy and Shoemaker Mines now owned by Murray Energy Corporation. He enjoyed the comradeship of the coal mining community and its essential role in producing reasonable, economic electrical energy for Americans and many of the world’s peoples. The husbanding of this great natural resource serves to supply God’s green leaves with an abundance of carbon dioxide that they efficiently exchange an abundance of oxygen enhancing the well-being of humans and animal life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Rebecca M. Patterson Yavelak on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2015; a grandson, Nathaniel David Yavelak; sisters, Mary Trevey, Ann Murphy and Judy Ringbloom; brothers, Nick, Steve “Stub”, Mike and John Yavelak.
Surviving are a son, William M. (Alexandria Zink) Yavelak of Belmont; a daughter, Diane Jean (Thomas) Brossart of Payson, AZ; sisters, Helen Protiva-Adams of Fowler, OH and Rita Stillwagon of Punta Gorda, FL; a granddaughter, Rachel Diana Yavelak, Esq. of Lexington, KY; a grandson, Dr. William James (Gina) Yavelak of Salt Lake City, UT; three great-grandsons, Joshua Michael Wilhelm, William Charles Yavelak and Andrew James Yavelak.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 11 am. until time of funeral services at 1 pm. at Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory, 204 West Main Street, St. Clairsville, OH with Mr. William M. Yavelak officiating. Burial will follow in Warnock Cemetery.
